What Brings People Here

What a crash does
that nobody talks about

01 — Sleep

You Can’t Turn Your Brain Off

Replaying the impact. Waking up mid-dream at the moment of contact. Lying awake running through what you could have done differently. The body remembers the crash even when you’re somewhere safe — and it won’t let you forget.

02 — Driving

Getting Back in the Car

You’re gripping the wheel harder than you used to. Flinching at intersections. Scanning every driver around you for what they might do wrong. Something that used to be automatic now costs you something every single time.

03 — Hypervigilance

Everything Feels Like a Threat Now

Loud sounds. Someone coming up behind you. Crowds. You’re not anxious by nature — but since the accident something in you is always running a threat scan. It’s exhausting and it’s not getting better on its own.

04 — Mood

Irritable, Flat, or Both

Short with people you care about. Disinterested in things you used to want. Some days the anger comes out sideways. Some days there’s just nothing. The people around you can see the change, even if you can’t name it yet.

05 — Pain & Body

The Physical and Psychological Are Tangled

Chronic pain from the accident feeds the anxiety. The anxiety amplifies the pain. You’re caught in a loop and the physio is only half the picture. The psychological component of MVA injury is real and it responds to treatment.

06 — Guilt

What If It Was Your Fault

Even when it wasn’t. Or even when it was partly yours. The legal process tells you one story. What’s running in your head tells you another. Trauma doesn’t wait for fault to be assigned before it starts doing damage.

“ICBC claims can take months to resolve. The psychological damage from an accident doesn’t wait for the paperwork. Starting treatment early is both clinically appropriate and well-documented in your claim record.”

How ICBC Coverage Works

The ICBC process,
without the runaround

Getting Your Counselling Covered

1
You Have an Active ICBC Claim

You need an open ICBC claim number related to a motor vehicle accident. If you’ve reported the accident to ICBC and have a claim number, you’re in the right place.

2
Book Your Free Consultation

15-minute call at no cost. Bring your claim number and adjuster name. We confirm coverage before your first paid session so there are no surprises.

3
Clinical Assessment

Your first session is a thorough intake. This becomes the foundation of your treatment plan and the first documentation submitted to ICBC under your claim.

4
Ongoing Treatment

Sessions approved by ICBC typically run in blocks. Progress notes go to your adjuster on schedule. If additional sessions are needed, the documentation supports that request.

No referral required. You don’t need a doctor’s note to begin ICBC counselling with an RCC. You need your claim number and adjuster contact — that’s it.

Enhanced Care (previously no-fault) claims: If your accident occurred after May 1, 2021, your claim may fall under ICBC’s Enhanced Care model. Coverage for mental health treatment is included. Contact directly to confirm the specifics of your claim type.

Immediate availability. No waitlist. Sessions can begin within the same week your coverage is confirmed.

About Your Clinician

Who you’re
actually talking to

I’m Nicholas van Sabben — a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #19988) based in Kamloops. I work with adults carrying complex presentations: trauma, PTSD, ADHD, BPD, substance use. High-acuity cases that have often been through other providers without resolution.

ICBC claims involve real psychological injury. The documentation matters, the treatment matters, and the clinical relationship matters. I handle the paperwork end of the ICBC process accurately and on time so that your sessions are actually about your recovery — not about navigating the system.

I work with EMDR. I work with DBT. I came to this work through my own high-acuity path and I don’t refer out when cases get complex. If you’re a month post-accident and still not sleeping, or two years post-accident and still not right — this is the kind of work I do.
